Illustrative Voices' Electives Series focuses on the fundamentals skills needed to be a successful visual storyteller.
Figure Drawing, Heads & Hands Drawing, and illustration fundamentals are the core of our Electives Series. Our Electives Series classes focus on understanding the various skills needed to create and compose impactful visual narratives.
Electives Series classes are offered once a week at a regularly scheduled time and are approximately 1-3 hours long.

Character Design for Comics & Animation
Learn the basics of character design for sequential art, printed form, and animation.
Character Design for Comics & Animation teaches how to draw objects, figures, and environments to scale and in perspective, utilizing compositional strategies and camera angles for use in sequential imagery.
This course also explores diverse ethnicities and cultures in comics and animation and how they are represented. This course encourages artists to create characters who represent them and with whom they identify.

Fundamentals of Illustration
Learn the basics of visual storytelling and narrative composition.
Fundamentals of Illustration explores the fundamental principles of visual storytelling. You will research and conceptualize a moment in time and use color, industry techniques, and materials to master the art of making narratives come to life. Everything from the pencil to the paintbrush, mixed media, and digital tools will be utilized to bring your visual narrative into existence.
This class focuses on empowering artists to visually communicate a narrative that encompasses diverse ethnicities and cultures. This course encourages artists to create illustrations who represent them and with whom they identify.
